Amanda Joins The Marine Corps. (see below)

Updated Septemper 17th, 2007 see update below
Check back over the summer for updates on Amanda's condition and announcements about  fund raising events .

Amanda Dinnigan is the youngest daughter of local 361 member Bob Dinnigan and his wife Arlene. She is a beautiful little 8 year old girl who has been seriously injured in a terrible automobile accident. She is presently paralyzed from the neck down and is breathing on a ventilator. This is the result of a severe spinal cord injury she suffered during the accident.

Also in the accident with Amanda and her Mom were her 3 cousins Emma 9, Ashley 5 and 2 year old Erin. Emma broke her neck as well and was also placed on a ventilator which has since been removed. At present her condition has improved and she is doing much better and has even taken a few steps. Ashley is okay, and Erin suffered a broken ankle which has been placed in a cast.

Those of you that are parents can certainly appreciate the heart breaking anguish that this family is suffering during this trying time.

Amanda recently underwent extensive rehabilitation therapy at The Shriners Children Hospital in Philadelphia. During her time at the hospital her family and friends raced to get the house prepared for Amanda to be able to come home.  She will need round the clock nursing care and her room modified to fit all the equipment and the hospital bed. Some of the modifications included installation of a ramp, doors widened, room sizes enlarged and floors reinforced. Thankfully with all the contributions and volunteered time and material the house was ready for Amanda’s return.

Monday, September 17, 2007 Update

On February 21, 2007, Amanda Dinnigan, an 8 year old from Smithtown was involved in a serious car accident. As a result Amanda was left a high-level quadriplegic. Unable to move anything below her chin and on a ventilator she needs 24/7 nursing care. With the help of the “Testaverde Fund for Spinal Cord Injury”, family members and close friends she is getting help, but she needs more. So on October 18, 2007 the community is having a big fundraiser to help purchase a much needed handicap van to help transport Amanda back and forth to weekly hospital and doctor visits. We also need the support of the Smithtown community. Any donation will help raise money for this great cause, so please be generous and help this family in their time of need.

May God Bless Amanda!

Marine's come to Amanda's house and make her an Honorary Marine.
