HEROES HELPING HEROES

On the morning of September,11th2001, within minutes of the World Trade Center
Collapse, an authentic army of Heroes converged on Ground Zero. They came for one very  simple reason, to do what they could to try and save the lives of the poor unfortunate victims of this outrageous attack of terrorism. There were Ironworkers, Laborers, Carpenters, Engineers, Plumbers, Fitters, Electricians, Teamsters, Sheet Metal Workers, every trade was represented.
They did not hesitate to put their lives on the line; they came by the hundreds for days and weeks after the attack. Not questioning the danger, not questioning the possible long term effects of the toxic clouds of smoke. They worked tirelessly around the clock, 24 hours a day 7 days a week until the task was done. And then they left. They simply left. Some may never be identified. Thankfully, most of the names are known.

It’s been four years and four months since that faithful day when those Heroes converged on Ground Zero. Now the physical affects of what they did are starting to manifest themselves. The total physical price that they will have to pay for their great courage is unknown. But one thing is certain, they need help and they need it now. They don’t need lip service, or bureaucratic double talk, they need an army of heroes just like them, to come together now as they did so heroically back then and help them the same way they
so courageously tried to help others.

On June 17th, we will bring our collective voice to the attention of lawmakers and the public with a rally of Rescue and Recovery Workers,
community residents and employees, who are all part of the Ground Zero community.  We will be joined by
Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney
and other elected representatives, leaders of labor unions and health and safety advocates.
Together we will demand a solid commitment to fund long-term health monitoring and to address the many health needs linked
to Ground Zero pollution.

Come and make your voice matter!  You can help convince our government to “step up to the plate” and do what needs to be done
for those who risked their lives at a time of immense sorrow and fear, and those who helped our communities and country
recover and move forward.

Thousands of workers selflessly answered the call to help in the rescue and recovery efforts after New York’s greatest tragedy
on September 11th.  While working tirelessly at the WTC site, they were exposed to toxic contaminants that jeopardized their health
and safety.  Since that day, many have become seriously ill and others have died.

The devastating health consequences suffered by these workers, as well as the impacts on community residents and area employees,
have been shamelessly ignored by our federal and state governments in the nearly five years that have passed since September 11th

.

We cannot wait any longer. We have waited long enough. We need action now
